Foundation Funds Two New Studies: Accounting and Social Media

Posted 07/16/10

The Foundation is pleased to report that two new studies are being developed. Based on keen interest in the topics, Life after FASB Changes and Social Media: How to Use it For Marketing An Equipment Leasing and Finance Company were commissioned by the Foundation earlier this year and are expected to be available in the Fall.

Life After FASB Changes, being produced by the Alta Group, will address the expected upcoming changes to the U.S. lease accounting standard and how they impact the financial statements and operations of both lessors and lessees. The proposed new accounting rules create fundamental asymmetries between the accounting, legal, economic, and tax disciplines, and also generate market changes. Lessee financing decisions, lessor product offerings and business models, and reporting, tracking, and compliance issues will be likely raised under these changes. It will be imperative for equipment financing companies to formulate contingency plans that address both the realities of changing lessee financing behavior and new lessor rules that will affect the delivery and accounting for lease transactions. The white paper will explore the potential state of equipment finance after the upcoming FASB changes in order to ready companies for the transformation.

The paper, Social Media: How to Use it For Marketing An Equipment Leasing and Finance Company, will debut at the ELFA annual convention in late October. Social media is being used in current marketing efforts by businesses and organizations world-wide. The paper will be focused on educating equipment leasing and finance companies on how to explore, use and exploit social media channels as part of their marketing efforts.

The research paper will provide a primer to companies as they consider using social media as a component of their marketing plan. Key considerations, circumstances, benefits and rewards, risks, and implications that are unique to the equipment leasing and finance industry, specifically, will be addressed. Additionally, including an analysis of best practices within comparable industries will be included to help leaders understand what is possible and appropriate for the industry.
